The diplomas that make up DELF and DALF are completely independent. This means that candidates can register for the examination of their choice, according to their level. All examinations include the four skills at every level, with varying degrees of interaction and mediation required depending on the level.
A score of at least 50/100 is required in order to be awarded the diploma; awarded diplomas are valid for life.
Each examination evaluates the four communication skills: reading, listening, writing and speaking.

The TCF results are valid for 2 years, while the DELF/DALF is a diploma valid for life.

For the TCF...  

• Each part your proficiency is graded from A1 to C2. You may get a writing A2 and a speaking C2.
• We offer regular sessions throughout the year.
• You get temporary results for the listening and written comprehension immediately and official results about 2 weeks after the exam via email.
• The exam format is different, the DELF/DALF is pass/fail, whereas the TCF places you at a level (like a placement test).
• The TCF is more expensive. 

You can enroll for the TCF tout public.  HOWEVER, to be valid to apply for a university application,  you need to enroll separately for each part of the exam, and take all the parts during the same session. Full exam cost : approx $500

A temporary document and your results will be sent to you by email 1 month after the exam. 

Official diplomas will be issued to the candidates who passed by the French Ministry of Education. Usually, they take about 3 to 6 months after the exam to arrive.  

Once received in our premises, we will send you a notification to come pick up your official test results in person, upon presentation of an official ID with picture. 

If you will not be able to come pick it up, we offer a shipping service at $30. We can only send the official documents via certified mail. Please pay for shipping at the time of exam registration if you would like this service. We will not ship outside of the US. 

If your diploma is lost, you must write to the French center at delfdalf@france-education-international.fr to request a duplicate diploma and provide the following information:

Your name (as written in the passport)
Your date of birth
Your examination candidate number (if known)
The city and country where your examination center is located
The date of your examination (year, month)
The level you took the examination for (A1-C2)
Your complete mailing address

All notifications are sent via email 1 week prior to the exam to the email you used to register. Please note the the speaking part may be schedules on a different day depending on the number of candidates and availability of the examiners. 
It is not possible to change the day or time of your examination. 
If you arrive after the arrival time on your notification, you will not be granted access to the exam and your registration will be forfeited. 

Your diploma is valid for life!

DELF and DALF examiners are teachers of French as Foreign Language. They receive a specific training and are authorized by France Education International. They follow strict assessment guidelines and are regularly monitored.

The DELF/DALF exam is in person. Our site is located at 1345 Bush Street in San Francisco. To find other testing sites, please refer to France Education International's Website. 

The candidate will need nothing except their valid photo identification, convocation with their candidate number, snacks and water.

All other belongings will go in a separate room during the exam. The candidate may not bring a cell phone or smart watch/device, outside notebook or looseleaf paper, or pencil pouches into the exam room. 

Candidates may either bring their lunch or eat out nearby, as there are sandwich, pizza, and burrito shops etc. nearby.
